Online dances with live music for over 50s
Online FolkActive Dances take place over zoom on the fourth Wednesday of every month except August and December.
FolkActive Dances are for people over 50 wanting to keep active using simple folk dances to suit all levels of activity while meeting new people. In-person monthly sessions re-start from October 13th, and include live music from members of Jigfoot, and a caller to guide you through the dances. No partner is needed, it’s fun, you get fitter and make new friends!
When coronavirus restrictions meant we couldn’t meet physically, we kept on dancing using Zoom, enabling dancers to re-connect and enjoy moving to live folk music at home. An unexpected bonus has been the potential to reach a much wider audience, so we’re delighted to be continuing to offer the chance to dance with us, wherever you are!
We’ve adapted dances for couples and individuals at home, and we’ve become creative about improvising with props instead of partners where necessary! There’s a caller and on-screen lead for the dance moves, and folk musicians providing live music and song.
Zoom dances take place on the fourth Wednesday of each month
from 2pm to 3.15pm.

We ran our first online FolkActive Dance in June 2020, and judging by the feedback we did pretty well!
“The whole session was fun and enjoyable and a different way of exercising, thank you!”
“It was lovely to see so many familiar faces!”
“It was great and it put a big smile on my face. Isn’t it amazing what music and dance can do for you, even if you are doing it all alone?”
This is a great way of connecting safely, keeping active and spreading some joy!
Try it yourself and see.
